Gout is a common form of arthritis where swelling and pain develops in the joints. 

This is caused by high uric acid levels in the blood, which causes crystals to form in the body.

These crystals can cause a lot of pain, especially at the base of the big toe.

It also important to drink lots of fluids throughout the day to flush the kidneys and prevent uric acid crystals forming in the first place.
